assignment 2 self portrait

 

The first 3 pictures I attempted stop motion, where i tried to have the focus be on me and my movements  and have the background be a little less focused, each picture was taken using a shutter speed of 1/500s. The last 2 pictures I attempted to do blur motion. In the first picture i was in the middle of catching a basketball and in the second one if its not already obvious i was riding a swing. Both of these pictures were taken with a shutter speed of 1/10s.

Vivian Maier

Vivian Maier was born on February 1st, 1926 and passed away on April 21, 2009, her work wasn't that popular until after her death. Her day job was as a nanny, but as a way to express herself outside of her day job, she shot over 150 000 photos, most of them being self-portraits. A lot of her self-portraits focus on her role as a photographer. She would often take pictures in front of a window or anything with a reflection so that she was obviously shown in the picture. They often show her as a silent observer, which is pretty much what she was while living in Chicago. Her portraits tell us more about the mysterious woman she wanted to be portrayed as, rather than who she was actually known as, which was as a nanny.
